ALDs

Assistive listening devices (ALDs) are products designed to improve one’s ability to hear a desired signal. They can range from amplified telephones, stethoscopes, smoke detectors and alarm clocks to infrared, FM or induction loop systems designed to improve comprehension of TV, public speakers, theatre presentations or even overhead airport announcements. Most systems use an amplifier to increase the signal strength and seek to minimize the negative effects of distance and reverberation. Some are designed for use with hearing aids while many can be used without them. While hearing aids can be helpful in many situations there are still some difficult listening environments that require further assistance.

The hearing health care professionals of Audiology by Accent can help you select the perfect ALD for your listening environment. Our audiologists are also advocating for the placement of induction loops in public places in Gainesville and the North Central Florida region. Please contact us at 352-271-5373 if you are interested in getting your worship center, business or home “looped” for sound or if you would like to learn more about this effective and affordable technology.
