Ann L. Glowasky, M.D.

Dr. Glowasky was born in Jacksonville, Florida, and as the child of a Navy officer, spent her childhood in such places as Rota, Spain and Guam. She eventually settled in Pensacola, Florida. Dr. Glowasky attended college at Emory University in Atlanta, majoring in philosophy and chemistry. During her time at Emory, Dr. Glowasky was invited to help teach physics labs.

After graduating from Emory, Dr. Glowasky attended medical school at the University of Florida. After graduation, Dr. Glowasky completed at General Surgery internship in Jacksonville, followed by her training in Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery at the University of Florida in Gainesville.

During her ENT training, Dr. Glowasky developed a particular interest in voice disorders. While serving as Chief Resident, Dr. Glowasky started the University of Florida’s Spasmodic Dysphonia (SD) clinic, specializing in the treatment of SD with botulinum toxin, or Botox.

After residency, Dr. Glowasky went into private practice in Gainesville, but maintained a part-time academic appointment with UF and the Gainesville VA Medical Center, primarily to continue her work with the speech and voice clinics, and her work with laryngeal Botox.

In 1991, Dr. Glowasky formed North Central Florida ENT Associates with Drs. Larry Rodgers and Larry Smith. This practice eventually became Accent Physician Specialists.

Despite entering private practice full time in the mid 1990’s, Dr. Glowasky has kept a close relationship with the University of Florida. Dr. Glowasky has coauthored a chapter in Organic Voice Disorders, with Dr. Michael Crary of the UF Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Disorders. Dr. Glowasky continues to be involved with research projects with Dr. Crary. Dr. Glowasky also works closely with Dr. Brenda Smith of the UF College of Fine Arts. She assists Dr. Smith in a vocal pedagogy class, instructing voice majors in the anatomy and proper use of the larynx as a musical instrument.

Dr. Glowasky continues her speech and voice work today, utilizing a state of the art computer based laryngeal stroboscopy system. She also has a particular interest in the effects of chronic acid reflux (especially as it pertains to the voice), and performs 24 hour pH pharyngeal monitoring to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of reflux.

Dr. Glowasky’s surgical interests include head and neck cancer surgery, salivary gland surgery, voice surgery, and thyroid and parathyroid surgery. Together with Dr. Catherine Edwards, Dr. Glowasky heads the Accent Thyroid Center, and Dr. Glowasky is Gainesville’s busiest thyroid and parathyroid surgeon.

Dr. Glowasky has served as Chief of Surgery (three years) and Chief of Medical Staff (1 year) at North Florida Regional Medical Center. She has also served on the Board of Trustees of the hospital.

Dr. Glowasky is married to an anthropologist at the University of Florida, and enjoys reading, cooking, and travel in her spare time.
