Accent Physician Specialists, PA

Accent Physician Specialists, PA is a multi-specialty group that includes ENT, Audiology, Ophthalmology, and Endocrinology. In addition to plastic and cosmetic surgery, Accent Physician Specialists provides expertise in otolaryngology, an Allergy Clinic and an audiology program. Within our modern facilities is an office-based surgery suite. Our surgery suite is accredited by the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities, Inc. (AAASF), assuring the highest standards and quality for patient safety. The accredited status of the facility and qualifications of the staff are testaments to our commitment to quality patient care.

Virginia “Jenny” Burns Petitto, M.D.

Dr. Petitto received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1979 from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, NC. In 1981 she continued on at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, NC for pre-medical studies, followed by a stint at Oxford University, England; where she received a Certificate of Theology.

She returned to UNC where she graduated medical school in 1987. Then she completed her internship in 1988 at Mercy Medical Center, Baltimore, MD (University of Maryland). From 1988-1991, Dr. Petitto attended another ACC school and completing her residency in Ophthalmology at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, NC.

In 1991 and 1992 Dr. Petitto practiced in Burlington, NC at Alamance Eye Center, but in 1993 she could resist Gainesville no longer and began practicing at Gainesville Eye Physicians. Then in 2008 she joined Accent Physician Specialist and created Accent on Eyes.

As a board certified and re-certified Ophthalmologist Dr. Petitto, has met the gold standard in the field of Ophthalmology as it pertains to knowledge, experience and skill. She is a fellow with the American Association of Ophthalmology and since 1993 she has been on the Staff at Shands at Alachua General Hospital, now STH. She is also a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.

Over the years Dr. Petitto has been recognized for achieving great things as a student, doctor and person. While an undergrad at the University of North Carolina, she was a Morehead Scholar, a Jane Craige Memorial Award recipient, an Outstanding Junior Student and consistently on the Dean's List. During her medical training she received the Whitson-Womack Scholarship and was a Fourth Year Academic Honors recipient. She also served on the Morehead Scholar Selection Committee and was the Co-Director of the SHAC Clinic.
